| Oooh.... Im am going to buy one for myself in like October. And obviously before I buy a system I like to do some research on it Anyway... The buttons such as the power button are all touch based now. So there will be no red ring around the power button in case of it breaking. However there will now be a "green ring of death" but since the Xbox 360 slim contain a surplus of fans all over the console the chances of breaking your Xbox will be decreased. |

Hmm I play with my friend because he has one, theres always a 'Ring of something' death, its like they do it on purpose. |

| What do you mean its like they do it on purpose? Once you get it theres no way of taking it off unless it gets fixed. If you do get an Xbox 360 slim for Christmas from your parents, I reccommend adding Warranty to it in case you get the "green ring of death" That way you can just get it repaired...free of charge of course instead of having to buy another one. |

| The red ring of death indicates a hardware malfunction within the console that relate to overheating, however, there are ways to mod your 360 to prevent the RROD, and Microsoft I believe put a RROD fix into the new xbox 360 consoles, so it probably won't happen. Also, to answer your question, yes, it is possible for a new xbox 360 to get the RROD, but not right away. My friend told me that his first xbox got the RROD after a month. And like what obi said, microsoft did a lot to the new xbox 360 to prevent any hardware malfunctions, because those malfunctions hurt their business. They HAVE to repair it for free, AND they usually give you a free month or so on Xbox Live. However, the new 360 slim can still have hardware malfunctions due to overheating, but instead of a red ring, you console will have a flashing green ring on the front where the power button is. Just another reason to not be playing games for so long . |

| Just get the new Xbox It basically guaranteed not to get the RROD in a month Unless you leave it on 24/7 for 3 days :/ Then you will obviously get it... |

| lol oh jeezus the history of the RROD was more common in earlier xbox for the failure of a fan it had. The firsts xboxx were hungry electricty eating machines that after awhile overheated. MIcrosoft literally took the blame and replaced them and so forth the elite came out. The RROD is basically your xbox telling you youve been playing for way to long. Anyone can practically avoid the RROD if you keep your xbox in a cool place. Ive had my xbox for almost a year now and ive been pretty happpy ive left it on for a good 6 hours at times downloading a game and its been working fine no sign of RROD. If you get a xbox i recommend getting the newsest one cause its less likely to get a RROD.
P.S i think the loud noise the xbox made was not a RROD or GROD. It was cause the xbox was moved while it was reading the disc. Sadly the xbox has been known to brake if its moved while reading a disc. Somehow the disc gets out of place and goes ballistic inside destroying the xbox hardware haha
P.s.s A easy tip to also avoid getting the ring ring is to install your games on the harddrive. This makes it so the xbox doesnt read the game while you play so the fan wont work as hard if your playing for long periods of time |

| Xbox's RROD is caused by overheating, so cant you just get a fan and set it by the Xbox? Problem solved if so. |

| I dont think a fan would be effective.
First of all it would blow hot/cold air to the console. Unless you turn your room into a freezer by having the A/C and fan on everytime you play then go ahead see what happens.
But the overheating mostly occurs within the software. I dont think any form of outside cooling source will work in general. Just keep your Xbox at room temperature or below. |
